The Pimax Crystal Light is a PC-VR headset designed to bring high clarity and modern VR tech to a wider audience, combining advanced optics and integrated features in a streamlined package.
Pimax positions the Crystal Light as a “lightweight, streamlined” variant of their flagship Crystal model, optimized by removing on-headset hardware like the XR2 chip, battery, and built-in storage. These reductions allow for roughly 30% lower weight and a more accessible price point.
To keep costs and complexity down, some features present in more premium models have been trimmed:
No eye tracking (so no foveated rendering via gaze)
Fixed (rather than automatic) IPD and lens adjustment
Standalone mode (battery / computing on headset) is omitted — it must be tethered to a PC
However, the headset retains flexibility: it supports a Lighthouse faceplate (for use with SteamVR base stations) for those who need more precise external tracking.
The Crystal Light supports all common VR platforms via OpenXR / OpenVR / SteamVR and is managed through Pimax’s own software (“Pimax Play”) for configuration and optimization. It includes dynamic fixed rendering (DFR) and adjustable render resolution to help adapt performance across different gaming PCs.
Pimax recommends a minimum of an RTX 2080 class GPU, with RTX 3070 or better as optimal for smoother experience.
